Waukesha County farmer discovers dog attacking his goats

LISBON, Wisconsin – A Waukesha County farmer says she is living a nightmare after a dog attacked nearly a dozen of her animals early Tuesday morning.

The Platinum Sky Farm in Lisbon is home to many goats and chickens.

“In 10 years of raising goats, we have never seen anything like this,” said farm owner Amy Hackbarth.

Amy Hackbarth owns Platinum Sky Farm with her family. She came out to do her work this morning and saw a dog that had killed three of her goats. Two were seriously injured and had to be euthanized. Four goats are also injured.

Hackbarth could not have been prepared for the gruesome discovery on her property. The disturbing incident was recorded by her surveillance cameras.

“A loss of this magnitude is truly devastating for our family and our farm,” explained Hackbarth.

A dog strayed onto their property and jumped over the fence to get to their goats. Five goats died and four goats were seriously injured. A chicken was also killed.

“If I could imagine the worst thing that could happen on my farm, it’s pretty much this. The only thing that could have been worse is if he had killed more animals,” Hackbarth explained.

Lola, Dreamy, Frosty and Holly are the only survivors of Hackbarth’s milking herd. However, they are hanging on by a thread.

“Holly is the heroine here. Holly, who was looking into the cameras, was actually the one who tried to fight off the dog and suffered pretty bad injuries to her face and neck,” said Hackbarth.

These goats were known for their goat yoga and visits to senior centers and could be viewed at the state fair.

“It’s hard to comprehend the magnitude of the loss because it hits us from so many different directions,” she explained.

The family is trying to find the dog through social media, hoping to get in touch with the owner to find out how this happened.

“If we find out what’s behind it. Why he was here, why he was at large. Then I think we’ll have a much better understanding of how we can prevent something like this from happening again,” Hackbarth explained.
