Man arrested on suspicion of robbing 7-Eleven in Redwood City

REDWOOD CITY – A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbing a convenience store with a knife in Redwood City over the weekend, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. Saturday at the 7-Eleven on the corner of 5th Avenue and Bay Road, Redwood City police said in a news release.

The clerk told officers that a man had taken items from the store without paying. When the clerk confronted him, the man “waved a large knife around in a threatening manner,” police said.

Fearing for his safety, the clerk retreated into the store and called 911. No injuries were reported.

San Mateo County sheriff’s officials arrested the man near the crime scene. Both the clerk and a witness identified the man as the store robber, police said, adding that the stolen items and the knife were also found nearby.

The man was arrested and booked into Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City. He is charged with second-degree robbery and a probation violation. He is being held on $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 25, according to jail records.
