50 Cent is criticized for trivializing the sexual abuse of “Power” actor Michael Rainey Jr.

50 Cent was criticized for his insensitive comments about the sexual harassment of Performance Star Michael Rainey Jr.

After the 23-year-old actor was groped by the streamer’s younger sister during an appearance on TyTy James’ Twitch livestream, 50 expressed his perspective on the incident in a now-deleted Instagram post on Monday (June 10).

He largely dismissed the unwanted touching, writing, “Wait a minute sexual assault (frown face emoji), from a male perspective that was an aggressive approach. LOL HE is fine, no charges will be filed.”

The rapper and media mogul was criticized for his remarks. One social media user commented, “The fact that 50 Cent came forward and said Michael Rainey (Tariq from Power) was NOT sexually assaulted and he was OK with it when he was obviously uncomfortable and immediately left when the girl touched him in his private parts is part of the problem of today’s society.”

“Women can commit sexual assault too. Women can sexually harass others too, and women must be held accountable for that. If he had done that to her, his whole life and career would have gone up in flames. We must protect our young black men too!”

Another said: “50 Cent posted on Instagram mocking and belittling his leading man for being sexually harassed in front of the world. He called it ‘an aggressive approach’. But I’m supposed to believe that this man cares about the victims…”

A third critic put it even more bluntly, writing, “50 Cent is great at being a terrible human being.”

Rainey Jr. himself made a statement about the incident, footage of which went viral on the Internet.

“By now everyone has seen the video circulating on the internet. I am still in shock and don’t quite know how to process what happened last night,” he wrote in his Instagram stories.

“This is an unfortunate situation that I do not condone in any way. I cannot take this lightly because I know that if the roles were reversed, I would be in serious trouble.”

He added: “The fact is that sexual assault is never okay, regardless of gender or status. We are all human and should respect each other. Most importantly, we should always respect ourselves.”

TyTy also apologized to Rainey Jr. for the incident on the livestream, saying, “After the events that unfolded last night during my stream, I want to sincerely apologize to Michael and his family for what happened.

“My little sister misbehaved. What she did was very inappropriate and unacceptable. I am truly ashamed and disgusted by her behavior.”

“I completely respect the direction Michael wants to take in this situation,” he continued. “After seeing the clip I was completely baffled by what she did (sic).

“I will take extreme precautions on future streams to avoid similar issues and have banned her from participating in future streams. I will not tolerate any form of abuse.”
