Fallen New Haven, Minnesota police officer to be buried in Connecticut – NBC Connecticut

A New Haven, Minnesota, police officer was killed in the line of duty last month and will be returned to Connecticut for burial this week.

Minneapolis police officer Jamal Mitchell was responding to a call about a shooting on Thursday, May 30, when he was ambushed and shot.

Mitchell was trying to help a man on the street when the man shot him without warning, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. He later died of his injuries.

Mitchell, a New Haven native, will be returned to Connecticut on Wednesday before his burial next week. He will arrive at Bradley Airport at 5:30 p.m.

Connecticut State Police and New Haven police officers will meet Mitchell’s family and Minneapolis officers at the airport and escort them to the McClam Funeral Home in New Haven.

Mitchell’s viewing will be held next Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Floyd Little Athletic Center at Hillhouse High School. A service will be held beginning at 11:00 a.m. The viewing is open to the public.

He will be buried in Evergreen Cemetery.

Several people were killed in the shooting, including Mitchell, and three others were injured.
