Jacksonville man arrested in connection with shooting of 15-year-old in April

JACKSONVILLE, Texas (KLTV) – A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a case that left one person dead and one injured.

On April 1, Jacksonville police were called to a shooting in the 2000 block of South Jackson Street, where they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds. Daniel V. Benitez, 15, of Bullard, died after being taken to the hospital, and Jesus V. Benitez, 17, of Bullard, was hospitalized in critical condition.

On April 2, a 15-year-old was arrested and charged with murder, but because he was a minor, his identity was not disclosed.

On June 7, 19-year-old Octavio Abundes of Jacksonville was also arrested in connection with the case, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson. Abundes was charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Cherokee County Jail with bail set at $1,200,000.
