Search for climbers near Squamish temporarily suspended

The search for the three climbers on Atwell Peak in Garibaldi Provincial Park began after they failed to return on Friday, May 31.

Sea to Sky’s Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) says operations will be temporarily suspended after an aerial assessment and partial ground search have been completed and video footage has been captured.

“Significant challenges due to current unstable conditions have led to the decision to cease the search to ensure the safety of search and rescue teams,” the RCMP said.

The Mounties indicate the search is expected to resume after footage and conditions are assessed, but it is unclear exactly when that might be.
