Newport Police Department Arrest and Operation Report: June 5-6, 2024

The Newport Police Department has provided the following arrest and incident logs from 7:00 a.m. June 5, 2024, to 7:00 a.m. June 6, 2024.

Arrest report

On Wednesday, June 5th, at 12:47 p.m., 86-year-old Elise Dewey of Newport, Rhode Island, was cited by ACO Sweeney for animal cruelty and animal blocking.

On Wednesday, June 5th, at 6:26 p.m., Steven Botelho, age 56, of Newport, Rhode Island, was cited by Officer Boghigian for possession of alcohol, drinking, public opening of beverages in public.

At 10:11 p.m., Officer Gonsalves arrested Rakesh Bansal, age 53, of Newport, Rhode Island, on charges of refusal to submit to a chemical test and driving while intoxicated – blood alcohol concentration unknown – 1st offense.

Presumption of Innocence: Persons arrested, detained, or summoned/cited should be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
