Vacca appointed judge of the Western District of New York

Monroe County Court Judge Meredith Vacca was introduced Wednesday as President Joe Biden’s nominee to serve on the federal court for the Western District of New York.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer introduced Vacca during a nomination hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.

If confirmed, she would be the first Asian American and first woman of color to serve as a judge on the Western New York bench.

“I can think of no one more qualified to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York than Meredith Vacca of Rochester,” Schumer said. “I am extremely proud to support his nomination.”

Vacca already serves as an acting justice on the state Supreme Court and is a graduate of the University at Buffalo Law School.
