Police: Shooting in Gaithersburg leaves one dead

According to police, a man was killed in a shooting in Gaithersburg, Maryland, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Montgomery County Police told WTOP that officers and emergency responders responded to the 18700 block of North Frederick Avenue around 5:11 a.m. Sunday morning after receiving reports of a shooting in the area.

At the scene, officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police said his body will be taken to the medical examiner for official confirmation of the cause of death.

The victim’s identity is being kept secret until next of kin have been notified and further information is gathered. Police believe the investigation is currently ongoing.
