What was Pete Davidson’s Beverly Hills incident? Find out during a cameo in Eminem’s Houdini

Eminem released the first single “Houdini” from his upcoming album The Death of Slim Shady with a star-studded music video. The track features cameos from Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, comedian Shane Gillis and, at the end, Pete Davidson. The song is a tribute to his alter ego Slim Shady and contains references to his previous hits, including “Without Me.”

Pete Davidson parodied his own reckless driving experience in the music video. In March 2023, he reportedly drove at high speed and crashed into a house in Beverly Hills. Fortunately, no one was injured, but he was later charged with reckless driving.

Investigation into Pete Davidson’s Beverly Hills accident

Eminem’s latest song “Houdini” features notable cameos from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Shane Gillis and Pete Davidson. The music video pays homage to his 2002 song “Without Me” by incorporating Slim Shady’s character into crazy scenarios and paying tribute to the music video.

Towards the end of the video, Eminem, sitting in the passenger seat of his Lamborghini, is greeted by Pete Davidson, who takes over the car. The comedian leans forward and says, “Trust me, I’m a great driver. Don’t worry, I just got my license back.”

Davidson and Eminem are in the car in the mood for the song’s outro, when Davidson crashes the Lamborgini into a number of other cars. Pete Davidson’s cameo in the music video seemed to be a parodic reference to the comedian’s reckless driving of a sports car in 2023.

On March 4, 2023, Davidson lost control of his Mercedes Benz, drove over a curb, hit a fire hydrant, and crashed into a Beverly Hills home with his then-girlfriend and actress Chase Sui Wonders in the passenger seat. Fortunately, no one was injured. NBC reported that neither drugs nor alcohol were involved, and Davidson respectfully waited for authorities to arrive and cooperated with them.

Davidson was sentenced in July to an 8-month diversion plan that included 50 hours of community service and 12 hours of traffic school. According to Cosmopolitan, the Los Angeles District Attorney said at the time, “We believe Mr. Davidson drove recklessly, which ultimately resulted in him being involved in a serious collision with a house. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in that collision.”

This wasn’t the only time the comedian was involved in a car accident. Davidson reportedly drove his car into a wall while leaving a stand-up comedy show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles in late September 2023. He was seen blocking camera flashes with his hand and holding a cigarette behind the wheel.

Onlookers chanted Davidson’s name and began filming when they realized he was in the car. Eminem’s “Houdini” is available to stream on all music streaming platforms.

What is Eminem’s Houdini about?

Houdini begins with a classic Eminem cliche, getting his longtime manager Paul Rosenberg to voice his dislike for the upcoming album. “Hey Em, it’s Paul. I listened to the album… Good luck, you’re on your own,” Rosenberg says.

Reminiscent of his 2002 single Without Me, Houdini begins with the sing-song rhymes, “Guess who’s back / Shady’s back, tell a friend.” The song, produced by Eminem and longtime collaborator Luis Resto, quotes the Steve Miller Band’s Abracadabra in the chorus and references the Megan Thee Stallion shooting in one of the lines. “If I asked Megan Thee Stallion to collaborate with me / Would I really have a chance at a performance? I don’t know, but I’m glad to be back,” Eminem raps.

The music video for Houdini is an homage to Eminem’s Without Me and features a comic book style and guest appearances from 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Alchemist. The clip features two Eminems, one from 2002 and one from today, rapping along to the song.

Eminem’s new album, The Death of Slim Shady, has been the subject of speculation since its announcement last month. In March, Eminem revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he was working on a new project with Dr. Dre and would be hearing the album for the first time the day after the television appearance.

Eminem announced Slim Shady’s death during the NFL Draft with a teaser for the crime drama “Detroit Murder Files,” hinting that the project would mark the end of his alter ego. He also published a fake obituary in the Detroit Free Press saying goodbye to Slim Shady.
