A domestic incident in Carbondale leads to a shooting

A domestic incident led to a shooting Tuesday morning in Carbondale that left one person in critical condition.

Carbondale police responded to the 400 block of North Beadle Drive around 7:45 a.m

Officers determined the victim had suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound. Carbondale officers and Jackson County paramedics provided immediate life-saving medical care before the victim was transported by ambulance for further treatment. The victim is currently in critical condition.

Officers found the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Evetta Hughes 31 of Carbondale, at the scene. The victim and Hughes are married.

Investigators charged Hughes with aggravated assault with a firearm and aggravated domestic battery.
