16-year-old dies in storm when building collapses

MAGNOLIA, Texas (KBTX) – A storm-related incident killed a teenager working on a home construction project in Montgomery County on Tuesday.

It happened shortly after noon as a strong storm front moved from the Brazos Valley into southeast Texas.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said multiple emergency crews responded to the 33000 block of Willow Heights Lane in Magnolia when a home under construction collapsed while workers were on site.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that workers noticed the house beginning to shift during the storm and that all but one person was able to exit the house before it collapsed. Upon arrival, rescue crews quickly went to work and found the trapped man. It is with deep sadness that we report that a 16-year-old youth was unable to exit the building and was pronounced dead at the scene,” said Specialist Caleb Cole of the Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, it was confirmed that the victim was an employee of the construction company and had authorization to be on the construction site.

Next of kin have been notified of the incident, but the juvenile’s name will not be released, the sheriff’s office said.

The name of the company involved was also not made public.
