Stevie Nicks covers Led Zeppelin and Buffalo Springfield, My Morning Jacket Welcome Marching Band at BottleRock 2024

On Friday, May 24, BottleRock launched its 11th edition in Napa, California. From rap queen Megan Thee Stallion to indie favorite St. Vincent, the festival’s opening day satisfied music fans of all stripes. However, one look around the Friday crowd, filled with witchy shawls, bohemian hats and vintage t-shirts, proved that headliner Stevie Nicks was the artist to see. And this enthusiasm was echoed on stage by Friday’s artists.

“I can’t believe I’m playing on the same stage as Stevie, damn Nicks!” » proclaimed pop singer Bebe Rexha late in the afternoon from the JaM Cellars stage. And even though the weather at BottleRock was a little windier than last year, the event stayed true to its Napa roots and kept the wine flowing.

“Hello BottleRock. Happy chardonnay to you,” smiled St. Vincent at the start of his set, before launching into “Pay Your Way in Pain,” from his 2021 LP. daddy’s house. St. Vincent was also sure to present a variety of pieces from its latest production All born screamingwhich fell in April 2024.

“Thank you so much for being here,” St. Vincent said in front of fan favorite “New York.” “What an incredible lineup. Are you kidding me? Stevie Nicks?…Megan Thee Stallion? Get the hell out of here.

Unfortunately, fans were forced to choose between Megan Thee Stallion and Nicks who were both scheduled at 8:15 p.m. on the competing stages. And while Megan Thee Stallion dropped her brand of Houston hip-hop, Nicks began her set with an energetic cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.”

Afterward, Nicks greeted the crowd, saying, “Welcome, everyone.” We’re so happy you’re here…Let’s get this party started.

The singer offered selections from her solo catalog as well as Fleetwood Mac’s songbook, following 1983’s “If Anybody Falls.” The wild heart and 1981’s “Outside the Rain” Bella Donna with Rumors remarkable “dreams”. A cover of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” was a nice surprise mid-set, before the set closed with the killer trio of “Gold Dust Woman”, “Leather and Lace” and “Edge of Seventeen “. (Nicks’ only guest was his vocal coach Steve Real, covering Don Henley’s verse from “Leather and Lace.”)

Before singing “Rhiannon” and “Landslide,” Nicks told the wowed audience, “Stay safe, save the world.” You can do it. I love you. THANKS.”

The unique moments continued Saturday on My Morning Jacket. Midway through their set, which featured classics like “Mahgeetah”, “Gideon” and “Phone Went West”, MMJ launched into their second cover of George Harrison’s “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)”, that they made their debut. during their One Big Holiday event earlier this year. (Jim James has performed Harrison’s material in various contexts over the years and even recorded an EP in tribute to him.) Then, at the end of their set, the ensemble capped it off by bringing in USC Marching Band for their Z Favorite “Wordless Choir”.

BotteRock has confirmed its return from May 23 to 25, 2025.
