Peoria police still investigating accident, 3 weeks after student’s death

Three weeks after the accident, the investigation into a head-on collision that killed a Dunlap High School student is still ongoing.

On May 4 at approximately 11:38 p.m., a black 2012 Ford Fusion collided with a white 2012 Nissan Versa in the area of ​​8400 North Orange Prairie Road. According to a Peoria Fire Department report obtained by the Journal Star under the Freedom of Information Act, there was significant damage to the front of both vehicles.

Nevaeh Mitchell, the 18-year-old driving her Nissan home from work at the AMC movie theater near the Shoppes at Grand Prairie, was traveling north on Orange Prairie Road when her vehicle collided with a car traveling south in the northbound lane, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:27 a.m. May 5.
