Porsche accident in Pune: Grandfather of teenager arrested for “helping construction worker’s son escape and asking driver to take the blame”

Surendra Kumar Agarwal, the grandfather of the 17-year-old Pune-based Porsche driver who was driving two software engineers, was arrested by the Pune police. Agarwal was charged with helping his son Vishal Agarwal, a construction worker, escape and “kidnapping” him and pressuring the driver to take the blame for the accident.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had earlier said that attempts were being made to pin the blame on the driver rather than the minor. He added that attempts were made to replace the driver soon after the accident so that the minor would not get into trouble.

“It is true that the driver initially said that he was driving the car. We are investigating that part and also under whose pressure the driver made that statement. We are investigating it. During that time, attempts were made to replace the driver. We are investigating that too,” Kumar said during a press conference.

Pune Police Commissioner refuted reports that the driver was operating the car and said there was video footage proving that the 17-year-old was driving the luxury car.

Sources told News18 that Surendra Kumar and son Vishal Agarwal allegedly kidnapped the driver and held him captive. “They put pressure on him to take responsibility for the accident by offering him a bungalow,” a source said.

According to sources, the driver’s mobile phone was taken away and kept by the father-son duo for two days. After that, the driver called his wife and informed her about the incident. The wife, in turn, informed the police and a complaint was filed against her.

A source added that the driver was missing for two days after the accident.

Surendra Agarwal was questioned by the Crime Branch on Thursday after he bailed out the teenager and assured the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) that the minor would reform.

News18 had accessed documents which revealed that Surendra Kumar was involved in a shooting case in Pune, which was registered at Bund Garden police station and later transferred to the CBI.

According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has charged the boy’s grandfather, he ordered Chhota Rajan to execute Shiv Sena member Ajay Bhosale in 2009.
