SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 12, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – A Utah Transit Authority police officer suffered a medical incident Sunday afternoon while pursuing a suspect on foot.

The officer tried to approach a woman suspected of an unknown crime at Central Point Station, 221 W. 2100 South, around 3 p.m., but she fled on foot, UTA spokesman Carl Arky said.

The officer chased the woman but never made contact with her, Arky said. About a block from the station, the officer suffered a “medical incident” and collapsed outside a store, he said.

First responders treated the officer at the scene and later transported him to a hospital, Arky said. His condition was not immediately available.

The woman was later taken into custody, Arky said.

The incident remains under investigation.
