Worcester’s Union Station closes for ‘Walking Dead’ production

WORCESTER, MA – Stay away from Union Station in Worcester on Wednesday unless you want to have your brains picked on by an eager production assistant.

The city’s train hub will be closed between 10 a.m. and midnight on Wednesday due to ongoing production of the second season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City.” The series, a spinoff of the zombie hit “The Walking Dead,” filmed in Worcester this month and transformed entire swaths of downtown into a post-zombie apocalypse replacement for New York City.

MBTA Commuter Rail trains will continue to serve Worcester on Wednesday, but riders must board trains at the temporary platform at 45 Shrewsbury St., located east of Union Station under the I-290 overpass. This is the entrance that many passengers used last year during the platform construction at Union Station.

The “Dead City” spinoff first premiered in 2022 with “Walking Dead” stars Lauren Cohan And Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Morgan was spotted filming in Worcester this week.

Expect regular train service on the Framingham-Worcester route on Wednesday, with no trips to Busan.
