Three-year-old dies after tragic accident

The three-year-old daughter of the former Philadelphia Eagles Running back Reno Mahe died late last month – a week after she was found twisted in the blind cord at her family home.

Elsie Mahe was playing with her friend when the freak accident occurred and the adults were in a separate room nearby. It is reported that the family does not know how long Elsie was entangled before she was found unconscious.

Despite her mother’s desperate attempt to save her by performing CPR until paramedics arrived, Elsie was declared brain dead at a children’s hospital in Salt Lake City.

Her father announced the tragedy on Instagram, sharing a picture drawn by Elsie’s older sister Evie.

“Our Elsie girl has officially been released into heaven – at least from a worldly, paper perspective. Her second neurological examination also revealed brain death,” wrote Reno Mahe on behalf of his family. “We feel peace and are once again so grateful for the privilege of being Elsie’s parents.”

The Mahes also said they would donate Elsie’s organs.

According to government statistics, 24 Canadian children were strangled to death by blind and curtain cords between 1989 and 2012. Most of these children were under 3 years old.

While parents are encouraged to use wireless devices, there are safety guides to help protect children from the silent killer.
