The Redmond Police Department’s shelter-in-place alert for the SW Pumice Place area was incorrectly sent to all Deschutes Alert recipients

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A police “shelter in place” alert intended only for an area in southwest Redmond due to an ongoing incident was mistakenly sent to Deschutes Alerts recipients throughout Deschutes County Friday night.

The Redmond Police Department’s alert, sent out just after 7 p.m., was scheduled to be sent to an area of Southwest Pumice Place and 27thTh Street.

“Police responded to an ongoing emergency and are currently actively investigating,” the statement said.

A warning message was then sent out, pointing out the much smaller designated area and informing other recipients of the warning that they could ignore the message.
