“This fund will support clean energy projects and strategies identified under the Clean Energy Plan, aimed at reducing the energy burden on households in the City of Atlanta,” according to a press release.

The Atlanta City Council increased the initial amount of the transfer from $300,000 to $500,000, with “the goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2035,” which, according to a press release , is the goal of the mayor and council.

“Nearly 50,000 homes face an energy problem in our city, and we are constantly looking for ways to help” said Dickens. “We are following a strategic roadmap to reduce overall energy use and emissions in the city’s buildings and the Atlanta Community Energy Trust fund will enable innovative solutions and faster action as we focus on energy efficiency solutions.”

The fund will be managed by the Office of Sustainability and Resilience, which monitors and supports clean energy projects in the city. A press release states that future funds will come from a variety of sources, including municipal credits, revenue generated from the sale of renewable energy credits and federal funding opportunities.
