Jamestown man jailed after leading police on chase

A Jamestown man is in jail after leading police on a chase through the city early Sunday morning.

Jamestown Police say that officers observed a vehicle committing numerous traffic violations in the area of ​​East Eighth Street and Lakeview Avenue yesterday morning and then speeding away shortly after 12:30 p.m. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but were unable to do so.

According to police, the chase lasted a long time and the driver, a 34-year-old Nicholas Brownnearly collided with several police officers with his vehicle. The pursuit ended when Brown collided head-on with a marked New York State Trooper vehicle, an unrelated parked vehicle, and then a marked Jamestown Patrol vehicle. Police say Brown then actively fought police to resist arrest. After a brief struggle, Brown was taken into custody.

He is charged with three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree unlawful fleeing from police in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and second-degree malicious damage to property. Brown was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail without bail due to his prior criminal record.
