Man from Kuna arrested for possession of explosives

ADA COUNTY, ID – Tyson Jardine, 37, of Kuna, was arrested on July 26 in connection with a number of explosives-related charges.

On the evening of July 24, Kuna Police officers were dispatched to a residence near East 4th Street and Orchard Avenue in Kuna for a report of suspicious circumstances.

During the course of our investigation, possible explosive devices and numerous suspicious chemicals were discovered in the garage. The Boise Police Department Bomb Disposal Squad was dispatched to investigate the explosive devices and chemicals.

It was confirmed that the devices were explosives. Neighbours in the immediate vicinity were asked to evacuate.

At this time, partner agencies including the FBI, Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the Idaho National Guard’s 101st Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team were deployed to assist in the assessment, processing, removal, and destruction of the devices and chemicals. Preliminary information indicated that there was no threat to public safety from weapons of mass destruction.

Additionally, Tyson had not been seen by friends and family for about two weeks and was believed to be in the Pine/Featherville area of ​​Elmore County, where cell reception was limited.

The Ada County Sheriff’s Office ACTION Team and Ada Metro SWAT, in conjunction with the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, located Tyson at a campground near Pine.

When Tyson was attacked by police officers, he attempted to flee in his vehicle. Tyson backed into a Meridian Police armored vehicle and then crashed into the Ada Metro Bearcat armored vehicle, damaging both vehicles.

Tyson was then taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Elmore County Jail without bail. Tyson had a firearm on him at the time of his arrest.

Tyson will be extradited to the Ada County Jail pending arraignment on five counts of unlawful possession of an explosive device.

The case remains under investigation and further charges may be filed.
