Baby found dead in trash can outside house in Woodland Hills

A murder investigation is underway after a one-day-old girl was found dead in front of a house in the San Fernando Valley on Tuesday.

Police were notified after a 23-year-old woman who was hospitalized with heavy bleeding was found to have just given birth, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed to KTLA.


Officers traced the incident to a residence in the 23000 block of Burbank Boulevard in Woodland Hills and found the dead toddler in a trash can in the front yard.

There was initially no information about the cause of death.

The police child abuse unit is investigating the incident as a murder, the spokesman said.

A lawyer for the woman said her client was cooperating with investigators.

Neighbors said there were two homes on the property and that residents of both units were being questioned.
