Man arrested after allegedly pointing a cigarette lighter shaped like a gun at a motorist on I-70

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A motorist is facing felony charges after police say he threatened another motorist with an object that looked like a weapon.

It turned out that it was not a firearm, but a lighter in the shape of a pistol. However, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, this was enough to land the suspect in jail.

“When it comes to threats, Colorado law considers a simulated weapon to be the same as a real weapon. Waving one of these weapons around can result in an arrest for a serious crime,” the sheriff’s office said.

The incident was reported as a case of road rage on July 14. The sheriff’s office stated that after pointing the “gun” at the other vehicle, the suspect fled across the county line but was later stopped by the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office.

“A Summit County Deputy arrived on scene, investigated the incident and arrested the suspect. Juan Issidro Aguilar of Las Vegas, Nevada was transported to the Summit County Detention Center and arrested for aggravated menacing,” the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office released body camera footage of the incident:

“Road rage has no place on our roads and is not worth it. Take a deep breath, be patient, show forbearance and drive carefully,” the sheriff’s office said.
