Women attacked detective, video released

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office has released a video that officials hope will provide a more complete picture of what happened following a physical altercation between a detective and two women.

“JPSO was made aware of a video clip showing the end of an incident that occurred on July 15, 2024 in the 6700 block of Airline Drive in Metairie,” Captain Jason Rivarde said in a press release.

He released a longer video.

Rivarde says it “shows the fight that took place before the video posted on Instagram.”

The case stems from the death of a woman earlier this week.

“JPSO detectives began investigating the possible overdose death of a woman who had been dropped off at the local hospital. Our narcotics agents began investigating the source of the narcotics that may have caused the overdose. They were able to identify a suspect and intercept a drug shipment from Renell Polk in the 6700 block of Airline Dr.”

He says they arrested Polk after allegedly finding 22 grams of fentanyl on him.

“Polk’s vehicle was impounded pending the issuance of a search warrant. An additional search warrant was obtained for Polk’s residence.”

Rivarde said Angeline Parks and Deshon Parks arrived at the scene while the drug agent was waiting for a tow truck to pick up Polk’s car.

“The women attempted to steal the vehicle before being stopped by the detective. One of the women attempted to use a cell phone to make a call that the detective believed was to alert residents of Polk’s home, which he shares with Deshon Parks. A struggle ensued over the cell phone, which escalated when one of the women punched the detective in the face. A physical altercation ensued, with the two women joining forces to attack the detective. During the struggle, the detective’s clothing was torn and he sustained minor injuries that were treated at the scene.”

The captain said one of the suspects recorded part of the altercation on a phone and released it.

“The fight lasted about 45 seconds, the last five seconds of which were captured by Deshon Parks on a cell phone camera.”

Here’s a look at the charges in this case…
