IPD investigates fatal hit-and-run accident over the weekend

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Independence police want more information about a Hit-and-run accident at the weekend in which one man died.

An Independence Police spokesperson told FOX4 that the victim was a man in his 50s and that someone hit him at the intersection of 24th Street and Claremont Avenue.


This happened on Saturday around 5:17 p.m. in an otherwise quiet street.

A neighbor said the streets were filled with police, some of whom were blocking traffic, and she saw police working with the man’s remains at the side of the road.

The unidentified woman said police covered the man’s body with a white plastic sheet when they discovered the crime scene.

Independence Police Sergeant Jeff Buck said the victim is a veteran and police are waiting to contact his next of kin before releasing his name.

Buck said the VA is helping to locate his relatives.
