Fatal bicycle accident involving off-duty St. Lucie County deputy

A bicyclist died early Saturday morning in St. Lucie County after being struck by an off-duty sheriff. The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the fatal crash in the 23000 block of Okeechobee Road near Ft. Pierce. “The deputy, who had just finished his shift at the time of the accident, was placed on leave per sheriff’s office policy,” said Sheriff Keith Pearson. “We extend our deepest condolences to the bicyclist’s family and friends, as well as our deputy.” The Florida Highway Patrol is leading this investigation.

A cyclist was killed early Saturday morning in St. Lucie County after being struck by an off-duty sheriff.

“The deputy, who had just finished his shift at the time of the accident, was placed on leave in accordance with sheriff’s office policy,” said Sheriff Keith Pearson.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the cyclist’s family and friends as well as our representative.”

The Florida Highway Patrol is leading this investigation.
