Hoxie death under investigation, police report

HOXIE, Arkansas – Authorities are investigating a case in which a man died in Hoxie early this morning.

A statement from the department said Lawrence County Dispatch received a 911 call at 1:59 a.m. May 9 from an address near Edgar St. reporting a male subject who had collapsed, foaming began to form in the mouth and stopped responding.

The dispatch department then informed the police and emergency services about the situation. Shortly thereafter, they arrived at the scene and discovered the male subject lying lifeless on the living room floor and began performing life-saving measures.

The person was then loaded into the ambulance and transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge, where he was pronounced dead.

The male subject will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause of death. It appears authorities are concerned that narcotics played a role.
