16-year-old girl drugged and raped by man twice her age

Ludhiana: Police have arrested a 35-year-old grocery shop owner for sedating and raping a 16-year-old girl. The minor was working as a helper in the accused’s grocery shop. Police arrested the accused on Wednesday against whom a case has been registered under Section 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The FIR was filed on the complaint of the girl’s mother. The woman said the accused runs a grocery shop in a nearby locality. About a month ago, her daughter had started working as a helper in the shop. For the past few days, her daughter was upset and reluctant to go to work. When she asked the reason, her daughter said that on June 14, when she was at work, the accused took her to his house on the pretext of doing something. There, he gave her sedative in a drink and raped her. She said the accused threatened the girl with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident. According to police, the grocer is married and has young children.
