4 dead, including NYPD officer, after drunk driver crashes into nail salon

LONG ISLANDAccording to Suffolk County police, the man who crashed his car into a nail salon in Deer Park, Long Island, was driving while intoxicated.

Four people were killed, including an NYPD officer, police confirmed FOX 5.

Nine other people were hospitalized following the incident.

Officer Emilia Rennhack died in the accident, the PBA confirmed.

“Our hearts are breaking after this tragic loss,” the New York Police Department posted on X.

The identities of the victims were not disclosed.

According to police, 64-year-old Steve Schwally was driving a 2020 Chevy Traverse at a high rate of speed through the parking lot Friday afternoon before crashing into the front window of Hawaii Nail & Spa in a shopping center on Grand Boulevard near Brandywine Drive.

At this point, several people were trapped and at least one person was flown to hospital by helicopter.

When emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident, the driver was partially conscious, according to police.

He is currently being treated at a nearby hospital and is expected to face charges of drunk driving at a later date.

The car stays in the salon.

Three women and one man died at the scene of the accident, nine others were taken to hospital.
