Ogier released from hospital after WRC Poland accident

Sébastien Ogier has been released from hospital with serious injuries after being involved in a road accident that forced him out of the World Rally Championship this weekend.

Eight-time world champion Ogier and co-driver Vincent Landais were driving a GR Yaris reconnaissance car when they collided with another vehicle on Tuesday morning.

The driver and passenger of the other car involved, as well as two passers-by, were taken to hospital for medical examination.

It has now been confirmed that scans were carried out on all those involved in the accident and showed no signs of serious injuries.

Landais was released from hospital on Tuesday, but Ogier remained under medical observation overnight.

The Frenchman has since been released from hospital and was photographed wearing a neck brace on a flight back home.

Toyota has since asked its other part-time duo, two-time world champions Kalle Rovanpera and Jonne Halttunen, to take over its third GR Yaris Rally1 entry this weekend.

The FIA race directorate gave the team permission to use the Finnish duo as replacements. Over the next two days, the pair will explore the stages.

“As you may know, Vincent and I had a road accident yesterday while reconnaissance at Rally Poland,” said a post on Ogier’s social media channels.

“I had to spend the night in hospital, but I’m feeling much better now. I’m glad that the medical examinations showed no serious injuries to Vincent and the occupants of the other car.

“We cannot take part in this rally, which is a shame, but the most important thing is that everyone involved is safe.

“Thank you all for the messages I have received. I am now on my way home to rest and make sure I am back to full strength soon.

“Good luck to Kalle Rovanpera and Jonne Halttunen and the whole Toyota WRC team, I will be cheering you on.”

The Rally Poland with 19 stages starts on Thursday evening.
