FHP arrests man in connection with Orange County crash that left 71-year-old man dead

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an Oviedo man was arrested following a 2023 Orange County traffic crash that left 71-year-old Mohammad Moayer dead.

Police said 23-year-old Mitchell Engley was booked into the Seminole County Jail on Monday, where he is charged with negligent homicide and assault on an emergency medical technician.

According to FHP, on May 8, 2023, around 11 a.m., Engley was speeding while traveling eastbound on Wild Blackberry Trail in Winter Garden in a Toyota Camry when he missed a curve and veered off the road to the right.

The sedan struck a mailbox, a tree and a light pole before hitting Moayer, who was standing on the sidewalk, cops said. Officials said the vehicle then crashed through the porch into a home.

Moayer’s death was pronounced at the scene.

The police did not provide any further details about the reason for the assault complaint that has now been filed against Engley.

Seminole County officials said Engley was released Monday evening on $7,500 bail.
