Child found in Sandy Springs apartment complex pool dies

A missing 5-year-old girl was pronounced dead after being found in an apartment complex swimming pool Friday morning, according to Sandy Springs police.

Officers were dispatched at 8:42 a.m. June 21 to help find the missing girl who had special needs, according to an SSPD news release.

After a brief search of the area, the child was found in the swimming pool. A police officer jumped into the pool and pulled her out of the water. First responders began taking steps to save the child’s life.

She was then transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where she was pronounced dead.

The Criminal Investigation Division is continuing its investigation, the release said.

The SSPD press release did not include the location of the incident.
