Iraq: 6 dead in car accident

Baghdad, June 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) Six people were killed in a car accident when a sedan collided with a tanker truck on a road northwest of Baghdad, a traffic police official said.

Provincial traffic police officer Mahmoud al-Bakri told Xinhua news agency that the incident occurred on Friday when a sedan carrying five people collided with a tanker truck on a desert road between Salahudin and Anbar provinces, causing a fire.

A civil defense team arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire, while ambulances took the victims to hospital, al-Bakri said.

Meanwhile, a source from Samarra city hospital told Xinhua that the hospital had received six burned bodies, five of which belonged to the small car and another to the driver of the tanker truck.

According to the Iraqi High Commissioner for Human Rights, more than 7,000 traffic accidents occurred in Iraq in 2023, mainly due to deteriorating road conditions, inadequate traffic signals and safety barriers, and disregard for traffic rules.
