Second suspect arrested in South Augusta murder case

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting late last year that left a 20-year-old man dead in South Augusta.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced late Friday afternoon that 19-year-old Rashaun Malik McAllister-Lawrence was arrested in Columbia County with assistance from the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

He was named as a suspect in the Nov. 5 murder of 20-year-old Isaiah McKnight at the corner of Glenn Hills Drive and Claudia Drive.

After the shooting, rescue workers were called to the 3600 block of Goldfinch Drivewhere the victim lived. They found McKnight and took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, McAllister-Lawrence had warrants for his arrest for first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

Another suspect, 18-year-old Frashawn Sankoh, was arrested on May 25 and charged with murder and aggravated assault, according to inmate records.

According to the arrest warrant, a co-defendant drove Sankoh and McKnight to the scene, where they shot two other people.

The arrest warrant states that the perpetrators fired back. McKnight was shot and died, the warrant states.

The shooting is under a Series of them that have claimed more than 100 lives throughout the CSRA in the last year and a half.

Violent crime has affected communities large and small on both sides of the Savannah River, but Augusta, as the largest city, has been hit particularly hard.

Authorities have largely blamed gangs for the problem. Many of the suspects and victims, like McKnight, were young men.
