Motorcyclist dead after accident in southwest Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A motorcyclist died in an accident in the southwest Las Vegas Valley on Thursday.

It happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. near Arby Avenue and Durango Drive.


According to Las Vegas Metro Police, the motorcyclist was traveling south on Durango Drive at a high rate of speed and approached the intersection at Arby Avenue in the center lane.

A truck was traveling north on Durango Drive and south of Arby Avenue and entered the only left-turn lane. The truck stopped, then turned onto Arby Avenue and entered the path of the motorcyclist, and that’s when the crash occurred, police said.

The front of the motorcycle collided with the right rear of the truck, throwing the motorcyclist onto the road.

The driver of the motorcyclist, identified by police as a 44-year-old man, was taken to hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle had minor injuries.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene of the accident, showed no signs of impairment and cooperated with the investigation, police said. The driver’s death was the 77th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction in 2024.

Shortly before 9 p.m., roads along Durango Drive were reopened in both directions between Warm Springs Road and Badura Avenue.

The investigation is ongoing.
