Investigation into “suspicious death” in Salem leads to arrest of murder suspect

PORTLAND, Oregon (COIN) — A man was arrested Thursday morning and charged with murder in a Investigation into “suspicious death” in Salem earlier this monththe authorities said.

On Thursday morning, Salem police arrested 38-year-old Atilano Davalos III. In a news release, officials said the Salem Police SWAT team assisted investigators in executing an arrest warrant in the 2900 block of Mendocino Drive Northeast.


Davalos III was booked into the Marion County Jail and is charged with second-degree murder.

On June 7, police announced they had launched an investigation into the “suspicious death” of a 28-year-old woman who was found dead in the middle of the road on May 23.

Carla Fernanda Vasquez was discovered “lying in the roadway” after surveillance footage showed a car traveling eastbound near 111 Rural Avenue SE, where she was found just before 2 a.m., officials said. Paramedics later arrived and pronounced her dead.
