Secret Service agent robbed at gunpoint during Joe Biden’s trip to California

June 17 (UPI) – A Secret Service agent was robbed at gunpoint in Southern California over the weekend and fired his weapon during the incident. It was the same day President Joe Biden was in the state.

The incident was reported at 9:36 p.m. Saturday near a residential community in Orange County as the agent was returning from a work assignment, Tustin police posted on Facebook Monday.

On Saturday evening, President Joe Biden attended a fundraiser at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Shortly before 9 p.m., the President returned to his hotel in Los Angeles and then flew back to Washington, DC.

The Secret Service did not say whether the agent was part of the president’s security detail.

Tustin is 42 miles south of the Peacock Theater.

According to a press release from the Tustin Police Department, the agent’s bag was stolen at gunpoint.

The agent fired his government weapon, the secret service said.

“The suspect(s) could not be located and it is currently unknown if they were injured in the incident,” police said. “The individual left the scene in a silver car and has not been located, although some of the Secret Service agent’s belongings were recovered.”

According to the Secret Service, the Tustin Police Department is the lead investigative agency.
