Waterford toddler buried after tragic accident – News

Mourners gathered yesterday afternoon, Monday June 10, for the funeral of a toddler from Waterford.

The Angel Mass was held for two-year-old Elizabeth (Lizzie) Troy at St. Gobnait Church.

Lizzie, who has a twin sister named Freyja, died in a tragic accident at her home in Dungarvan on Wednesday 5 June.

Emergency services were called and took the toddler to Waterford University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

She leaves behind her heartbroken parents Nathan Troy and Mary Caitlan Rigney, her twin sister Freyja, her grandparents Lisa and Declan O’Keefe and Kathleen and Martin Troy, her great grandparents Willie and Mary Rigney, her great aunt Betty McEvoy, her aunts Lydia and Jessica Troy and her uncles Joey and Kelvin Troy and Michael Phelan.

Gardaí confirmed her death was a “tragic accident”. A file is to be prepared for the inquest and a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to provide support and assistance to the family.

Since the community learned of Lizzie’s death, numerous messages of condolence have been pouring in from people in the area and across the country, expressing love and support to her grieving family during a difficult time.

“May God give you all comfort at this sad time. God loves you all and her little sister. I have twin grandchildren next door so I am at a loss for words. I will be praying for you all and thinking of you,” said an anonymous message signed “a Kerry Nanna.”

Another message from a family in Limerick reads: “I am deeply heartbroken over Lizzie’s passing. May you find comfort in the time to come. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. We are thinking of you all at this very sad time. There are no words to describe the grief. Be good to yourself.”

A father from Galway also expressed his condolences: “I am so sorry for your great loss. I was deeply saddened to hear this news. I will keep Lizzie and all of you in my prayers. Rest in peace, Lizzie.”
