Man who discovered TV doctor Michael Mosley’s body during search speaks out after heartbreaking incident

The man who discovered the body of Michael Mosley, who had been missing for several days, on the Greek island of Symi has spoken out.

The TV doctor, who has appeared in This morning And The one show, went missing on Wednesday (June 5) after saying he was walking home from a beach but never arrived.

Mosley left at around 1:30 p.m. local time, but six hours later his wife reported him missing because he had still not returned.

Sadly, during the search for the doctor, a body was found and senior police officer Petros Vassilakis confirmed that “it is him”.

The body will be transferred to Rhodes for official identification.

According to Sky News, the body was found about 10 meters from the sea near a cave complex on Agia Marina beach.

Symi’s mayor Lefteris Papakalodoukas told Sky he was on a boat searching the caves when someone on board discovered the body.

The body was discovered by Antonios Mystiloglou, a cameraman from TV ERT, who was on a boat with the mayor when he noticed something.

He said: “As we were walking to Marina Beach, I noticed something black outside the fence at the end of the beach.

“I wasn’t sure so I took a close-up with the camera as far as it could zoom. It was about 300 meters away.

“I saw something, but I wasn’t sure. I talked to the mayor who was sitting next to me. He said, ‘Okay, we’ll come back and take another look.’

“We did, we were a little closer, about 200 meters. I took the photo again, but it looks too small through the camera, I wasn’t sure.

“We decided to play the footage back when we got back to the cafe. We took a photo of the screen with an iPhone, zoomed in and you can clearly see that there is a man lying with his hand on his stomach.

“On the other hand, he has his bag, the description exactly matches that of the man we are looking for. I am really sorry for the family. I am sorry that I am the one who found him.”

The mayor said the body had apparently fallen down a steep slope and there were some stones on top.

Cameraman Mystiloglou said he saw a leather bag in one of the body’s hands and an umbrella was also found nearby.

Video footage of Mosley’s last confirmed moments shows him walking past a restaurant with an umbrella.
