2 people die and 4 are injured in road accidents in Arkansas

Two people were killed and four others injured in traffic accidents on Arkansas roads late Friday afternoon, according to preliminary reports from Arkansas State Police.

Benita Aston, 85, of Lowell was killed around 4:30 p.m. when the 2017 Subaru Forester she was riding in crossed into the passing lane on Interstate 49 near Winslow and collided with a 1998 Buick LeSabre, the report said.

The collision caused the Subaru to leave the road and come to a stop in the median, while the Buick left the road and hit a tree.

The driver of the Subaru, 79-year-old William Aston, also of Lowell, and the driver of the Buick, 22-year-old Doug Sullivan of Rogers, were both taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Kimberly Carter, 18, of Sheridan died from injuries she sustained around 5:07 p.m. Friday when she lost control of her 2009 Chevrolet HHR while traveling south on Arkansas 9 near Malvern, a report said.

Carter attempted to overtake another vehicle and lost control of the vehicle and ended up in the oncoming lane, where a 2015 Jeep traveling north collided with the Chevrolet. Carter died of her injuries in hospital.

The driver of the Jeep, 30-year-old Nascha James of Simsboro, Louisiana, and passenger Kayden Guidry, 18, also of Simsboro, were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The police officers who investigated each accident reported that the weather was clear and the road was dry at the time.
