Playa del Rey crash victim identified as Morningside High student – ​​NBC Los Angeles

Two teenage brothers who died in a car crash in Playa del Rey on Tuesday night have been identified as students at Morningside High School in Inglewood.

A post on the school’s Facebook page identified the deceased students as David and Hector Ceja, ages 17 and 15. A third student was seriously injured and is still hospitalized, according to the school. That student’s brother, a student at Bennett-Kew Elementary School, was also hospitalized, the school said.

“We are deeply saddened by this recent tragic incident affecting many of our school communities,” the statement said.

The two deceased students will be honored during a graduation ceremony scheduled for Thursday on the school’s Inglewood campus. David Ceja was scheduled to graduate from the school.

“Their hearts are broken,” said Jim Morris, district administrator of the Inglewood Unified School District, who visited the family. “There are no words to describe what they are going through.”

The head-on collision between a Honda Accord and a Tesla SUV occurred shortly before 8 p.m. in the 8800 block of Vista Del Mar near Dockweiler State Beach.

The teenage driver of a Honda Accord died at the scene of the accident. One of the passengers died on the way to the hospital.

Some of the victims were trapped in the destroyed Honda.

Further details on the cause of the accident on the two-lane coastal road were not initially available.
