1 dead, 7 hospitalized after suspected accident under the influence of alcohol in Yuba City

(FOX40.COM) — One person died and seven others, including a child, were hospitalized in a car crash in Yuba City Sunday evening.

At approximately 8:42 p.m., the Yuba City Police Department said it received multiple 911 calls about a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of El Margarita Road and State Highway 20. When YCPD arrived on the scene, they found the driver of a white Honda Crosstour traveling north on El Margarita Road and failed to stop at a stop sign. The driver, identified by police as 39-year-old Chloe Tokuno-Fraley, had a 4-year-old girl in the back seat.

According to police, Tokuno-Fraley turned right onto a raised median and then continued driving in eastbound lanes on State Highway 20. Tokuno-Fraley’s Honda collided head-on with a Ford F150 traveling in the westbound lanes on State Highway 20.

According to YCPD, six passengers in the Ford F150 were injured. Five of the passengers were taken to Adventist Rideout Hospital, and one passenger was taken to Sutter Roseville Hospital. One of the Adventist’s hospitalized passengers, a 27-year-old man, later died, police said. The other passengers in the F150 suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Tokuno-Fraley was taken to Sutter Roseville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to YCPD. The 4-year-old girl was taken to UC Davis Hospital, where she also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Tokuno-Fraley may have been under the influence of alcohol, but the incident remains under investigation.
