Dead & Company announce new dates at Sphere in Las Vegas

Deadheads who were unable to score tickets to Dead & Company’s first 24-day run at the Sphere in Las Vegas have another chance to see the spectacle this summer.

The band, an offshoot of the Grateful Dead consisting of guitarist and co-founder Bobby Weir, longtime drummer Mickey Hart, guitarist/vocalist John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and drummer Jay Lane, plans to play six more shows at the state-of-the-art venue in August as part of their Dead Forever tour.

The newly added shows are scheduled for August 1-3 and August 8-10, with performances each weekend promising a unique setlist, according to an announcement on Tuesday, May 28.

Presale for the August concerts with registration begins on Thursday, May 30th at 10am. Tickets will be available to the general public through Ticketmaster starting Friday, May 31st at 10am.

Dead & Company’s performance follows U2’s 40-date tour of the $2.3 billion Las Vegas venue and a four-day show by Phish in April.

The shows mark a comeback of sorts for Dead & Company, who wrapped up their last tour at San Francisco’s Oracle Park in July, drawing more than 840,000 fans and grossing a record-breaking $115 million. However, the all-star jam band has decided to keep the music going.

Their performances at the Sphere include several references to San Francisco, including landmarks such as the Salesforce Tower and the 1960s Haight-Ashbury street scene. In a review, the Chronicle wrote, “Dead & Company perfectly integrated the performance with the gorgeous visual effects, much like an orchestra playing a live score to a projected film.”
