Goatherd killed in tiger attack

Mysore: On the evening of May 25, a tragic incident occurred near Moorband Hill in Mysore where a 48-year-old woman named Chikki was fatally attacked by a tiger while grazing her goats. Chikki, a resident of Malada Hadi near N. Begur in Kote Taluk, was suddenly attacked by the tiger and carried away.

Officials from the N. Begur Forestry Authority rushed to the scene of the accident and began a search for the woman’s body.

The incident has deeply shocked the local population and brought the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in the region into the spotlight.

The attack took place in the jurisdiction of Antarsante police station in HD Kote taluk.

Tiger plague is rampant in Kodagu

Madikeri: The tiger plague in Kodagu continues after two foreign breed dogs were killed by a tiger near Kuttandi on the outskirts of Virajpet. The incident involved two dogs, a husky and a pit bull, belonging to KK Group Estate. The plantation owner spotted tiger tracks near the attack site. Earlier, the tiger had attacked calves in the area but now it seems to be targeting dogs, worrying the villagers even more. The plantation owner has requested the forest department to capture the tiger to prevent further attacks.

Decomposed body found on coffee plantation in Kodagu

Madikeri: Another gruesome discovery is the discovery of a decomposed body in Valnoor Thyagattur village near Siddapur in Kodagu district. The body was discovered by labourers working in MM Girish’s coffee plantation. The foul smell led them to the spot where they found the decomposed remains of a man aged around 18 to 20 years.

The forest department officials including DCF Shankar, ACF AA Gopal, District Forest Officer Ratan Kumar and Doctor Chittiyappa visited the spot and conducted a postmortem. Preliminary investigation suggests that the young man died a week ago. The officials performed the last rites at the spot. These incidents underline the ongoing threat posed by wildlife in the region and urge the authorities to take stricter measures to protect human and animal lives.
