Two dead in shooting in Montgomery County, police say

Two young men died Sunday evening after a shooting near Nolte Local Park in Silver Spring, Maryland, Montgomery County police said in a statement.

Shortly before 7 p.m., officers were called to the 500 block of Thayer Avenue for a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found two 20-year-old men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Shiera Goff.

“We know that several people were in the area when the shooting occurred. Detectives are currently investigating the area and speaking with possible witnesses,” she said during a press conference Sunday evening.

Police have not yet identified any of the victims in this shooting.

Police have no suspects in custody and say it is an “active and ongoing investigation.”

“We are asking anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed something to contact our homicide unit,” Goff said.
