APC suspends Senator Jimoh Ibrahim over alleged anti-party activities

The leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Igbotako Ward II, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State have announced the suspension of the Senator representing Ondo South, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, over alleged anti-party activities and insubordination.

The statement was signed by members of the county executive committee including Omotoye Olusola, Bakere Usuf, Tore Obwoselu, Oloyinmi Idowu, Borewaye Louyomi, Oladipupo Bose, Alkimbobola Seyi, Lawal-Babatunde, Aritawe-Ademole, Akinkuoju Olarewaju and Fabioye Ajoke, among others.

Ibrahim’s suspension came immediately after the APC’s direct gubernatorial primary in the state, in which he was defeated.

The party leadership explained that its decision to suspend Senator Ibrahim was based on Article 21, Section A of the APC Constitution.

In a letter, the 16-member executive committee said the decision to suspend the gubernatorial candidate and lawmaker was made during its meeting on Monday, May 13, 2024.

The party recalled that the APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, met with all the governorship candidates in Abuja to impress upon them the need to work with the party’s candidate and incumbent governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The executives pointed out that despite this development, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim continued to sue the governor and the APC in blatant disregard of the party’s directives.

The letter, made available to journalists on Wednesday in Akure, the state capital, said: “We, the members of the APC Executive Committee of Igbotako Ward II in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, have called a meeting for Monday, May 13, 2024.

“During our meeting, we discussed in detail various issues affecting the progress and development of our party, particularly the indiscipline and insubordination of some members.

“We have concluded that the actions and activities of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim are contrary to the party’s constitution, particularly his decision to sue the party and his anti-party activities.

“We have therefore decided to initiate disciplinary action against him as provided for in the party constitution. Senator Jimoh Folorunso Ibrahim is hereby suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect for insubordination and anti-party activities in accordance with Article 21, Section A of the APC constitution.

“It would be recalled that the Chairman of the National Party (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, met with all the governorship candidates of Ondo State in Abuja on April 25, 2024.

“During the meeting, he urged them to work with the party’s candidate and incumbent Governor of Ondo State, Honourable Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. Despite this, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim Folorunso sued the governor and the APC in blatant disregard of the party’s directives.

“Furthermore, he has engaged in anti-party activities by urging his supporters in Igbotako and Ondo State to join the NNPP, claiming that he will soon get the governorship from them. Senator Jimoh has openly declared his intention to disrupt the APC before he leaves the party as evidenced by his actions in the Federal High Court in Abuja and his derogatory remarks about the APC in various media.

“For the record, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim Folorunso has been suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect and is hereby barred from participating in any APC activities anywhere in the country.”
