Victims after standoff in Rancho Cordova: Parents of deceased suspect

(FOX40.COM) — The two people found dead early Thursday morning after a standoff in Rancho Cordova were the parents of the suspect, who also died, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.

Police responded to a call from a woman, later identified as 69-year-old Marylou Konvalin, saying she had been shot at a residence on Hartselle Way.

Inside the home, officers from the sheriff’s office and Rancho Cordova police found the woman dead in the front door. The sheriff’s office said they also suspected there was a second victim in the home.

The sheriff’s office said they also saw the suspect, 38-year-old Thomas Konvalin, standing in the doorway before barricading himself inside the house.

According to the sheriff’s office, a standoff lasting about three hours ensued, ending with the suspect crawling out the rear window with a rifle and being fatally shot three times by two officers.

Authorities also found 72-year-old William Konvalin dead in the house.

The sheriff’s office said the officers who shot Thomas Konvalin have been placed on leave pending the investigation.
