Man sentenced to 58 years in prison for sexually abusing 92-year-old Glendale Heights woman – Shaw Local

A former Glendale Heights man was sentenced to 58 years in prison Thursday for breaking into an elderly woman’s home and sexually assaulting her in November 2021.

After a three-day trial and about two hours of deliberations, a jury found 55-year-old Anthony Lane guilty of one count of burglary and three counts of aggravated sexual assault, according to a press release from the DuPage County District Attorney’s Office.

On December 6, 2021, Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh set bail at $5 million, with 10% to be paid. Lane has been in custody at the DuPage County Jail since then.

On November 22, 2021, at around 6 p.m., the 92-year-old victim entered her attached garage after returning home from her dialysis appointment. As the victim turned to close the garage door, she saw a person, later identified as Lane, standing in her doorway, the press release states.

When the victim attempted to close the door to her home, Lane broke down the door and pushed her into the apartment. He then bound the victim’s hands with duct tape, carried her upstairs, laid her on a bed in her bedroom and sexually assaulted her, the release states.

After the attack, Lane fled the home, after which the victim called 911 and was taken to a local hospital for medical attention. Authorities identified Lane as a suspect in the case. On December 2, 2021, Addison Police took him into custody.

“The violent, sexual assault of an elderly woman alone in her home is among the worst crimes I have seen in my 36-plus years as a prosecutor,” Berlin said in the press release. “The fear, pain and suffering Mr. Lane inflicted on this woman are beyond reprehensible and extremely alarming. Today’s 58-year prison sentence not only takes an extremely dangerous man off the streets for the rest of his life, but also sends a message that we in DuPage County will not tolerate this type of violent behavior.”

Lane must serve 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, and will receive credit for time spent in custody at the DuPage County Jail.
