One dead, three others injured in post-election violence in Saran in Bihar, internet blocked for 48 hours

One person died and three others were injured after a clash broke out between two groups believed to be supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in Bihar’s Saran district on Monday.

A police official said the incident took place in Bada Telma area near Bhikhari Thakur Chowk on Tuesday morning, adding that some people were arrested in connection with the incident and internet was blocked in the area for two days be.

He said shots were fired in the incident, one person was killed on the spot and three others were injured.

The deceased has been identified as Chandan Yadav (25), he added. “The injured were taken to the nearest hospital. Later, two of them were sent to Patna for better treatment,” said police commissioner Gaurav Mangla.

“A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. “Three people have been arrested in connection with today’s incident,” he said. The internet has also been blocked in the district to prevent a flare-up, he added.

RJD president Lalu Prasad’s daughter Rohini Acharya was the Mahagathbandhan candidate in Saran against BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy. Saran from Bihar voted in Phase 5 of the Lok Sabha election on Monday.

Reacting to the developments, former Bihar deputy chief minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said, “Two people have been arrested and the other two are absconding.” I have been assured that they will be arrested soon. Some people do things like this because they are afraid of losing. Such incidents should not happen during elections.”
